TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 11, 2024: Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw inaugurated a four-day training session for engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD), emphasizing the importance of modern techniques in road and bridge construction. This training, organized by the State Government’s PWD in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Highway Engineers (IAHE), aims to enhance the efficiency of engineers by introducing them to contemporary design, construction, and maintenance practices.
Addressing the inaugural session, Shri Saw highlighted that the adoption of new techniques would significantly improve the quality and durability of culverts and small to medium bridges across the state. He noted,
“The knowledge of new techniques in road and bridge construction will increase the efficiency of our engineers, ensuring quality construction and maintenance.”
The training, held at Naveen Vishram Bhawan in Raipur, involves Deputy Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Superintending Engineers from Raipur and Durg divisions. These professionals are being trained on the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of culverts and small and medium bridges, with a strong emphasis on quality control. Subject experts from various institutions and construction agencies are leading the sessions.
In his speech, Shri Saw underscored the importance of continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies in the field of construction.
“There is no age for learning. As long as a person works, he keeps learning continuously. With time, the needs of the field of work change, new technologies come. We also have to update ourselves according to these. Only then we remain useful and relevant,” he stated. He also stressed the necessity of adhering to safety standards, especially given the increasing traffic and high-speed vehicles on roads today.
Shri Saw reminded the engineers of their responsibilities in ensuring quality, safety standards, and adherence to timelines in construction projects. He expressed hope that the training would expose departmental engineers to new technologies and standards, enhancing their qualifications and efficiency. He thanked IAHE for organizing the extensive training session.
The four-day training will feature presentations from IAHE Director Shri Sanjeev Kumar, former CRRI Chief Scientist Dr. Lakshmi Parameswaran, Shri Satendra Kumar, and Elegant Consultant Managing Director Shri Alok Pandey. They will cover various aspects of design, construction, maintenance, repair, and quality control of culverts and small to medium bridges. The opening session was attended by IAHE Joint Director Shri Dinesh Kumar Sharma, PWD Chief Engineer Shri KK Pipri, Chief Engineer (Bridge) Shri ML Oraon, and other senior officials.
