TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 15, 2024: In an effort to protect children from the sweltering heat, the Chhattisgarh government has equipped Anganwadi centers in Mahasamund district with coolers and fans. This initiative, led by the district administration, aims to create a comfortable and conducive learning environment for children.
To enhance comfort, 100% electrification of all 1,789 Anganwadi centers in the district has been completed. Additionally, gas stoves and cylinders have been provided to ensure a smoke-free environment, enabling the preparation of nutritious meals for the children.
Parents are pleased with these improvements. Mrs. Lilima Dewar, mother of Siddhi Dewar, noted that her child now attends Anganwadi regularly due to the installation of coolers. Similarly, Mr. Vishnu Dhiwar, father of Saurabh Dhiwar, expressed relief that the coolers mitigate the risk of heat stroke, allowing children to attend without concern.
Beyond comfort, these centers are crucial in combating malnutrition. Regular reviews by the Women and Child Development Department, health workers, and Mitanins ensure children receive nutritious hot meals. The Suposhan Abhiyan provides moringa and ragi chikki bars, along with supplementary ready-to-eat food.
Program Officer Sameer Pandey highlighted the success of anemia interventions, with 400 adolescent girls restored to normal health. New construction of Anganwadi centers continues, with 46 approved for 2023-24 through MNREGA, bringing the total number of operational centers to 1,699.
Anganwadi workers play a vital role in prenatal and antenatal care for pregnant women, newborn care, and monitoring the health and medical checkups for women and children. Their efforts ensure a healthier start for the youngest members of the community.
