TFP Bureau, Korba; June 14, 2024: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a subsidiary of the Vedanta Group, has reinforced its commitment to safety by conducting a live fire drill training program at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Korba Bulk Petroleum Terminal Plant. This extensive fire safety training equipped over 50 employees with crucial skills to handle different types of fires and implement effective prevention measures. The training also covered emergency response protocols and CPR training.
BALCO prioritizes the safety and well-being of its community through various initiatives. As part of its road safety awareness campaign, the company has implemented numerous measures to ensure a safe environment for all road users. Traffic rules are strictly enforced within the plant premises and the BALCO township.
BALCO CEO Shri Rajesh Kumar emphasized that safety is a core value deeply ingrained in the company’s culture.
“Our commitment to safety transcends mere compliance; it is embedded in our work ethos. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our plant operations and the broader community. Through various initiatives, we aim to raise awareness about road safety among our employees, school students, and the general public.”
Police Station Incharge Mr. Singh urged all citizens to adhere to traffic rules, emphasizing the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts.
“Reducing road accidents requires collective effort, and Balco’s cooperation has been instrumental in ensuring safe vehicular movement. The installation of thermoplastic markings, speed breakers, zebra crossings, and retro-reflective signboards by Balco is commendable.”
Balconagar Ward-39 Councilor Mr. Lukeshvar Prasad Chauhan highlighted BALCO’s commitment to community safety through its development initiatives.
“BALCO has consistently prioritized the safety and well-being of the community, particularly focusing on educating school children about road safety rules. Recognizing students as future drivers, the company is dedicated to raising their awareness.”
BALCO Road Safety Guard Mr. Dilip Kumar noted that BALCO has set speed limits of 30 kmph within the plant premises and 40 kmph in the township to enhance safety.
“I am proud to contribute to the company’s safety culture. We monitor vehicle speeds with speedometers and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules.”
BALCO continues to foster a culture of safety among the youth through various programs. Addressing the increased heavy vehicle traffic on the ring road due to the Sarvamangala temple diversion, BALCO has renovated the road from Rishidi to Dhyanchand Chowk and widened sections from Rishidi to Rumgarha. To ensure safe vehicle movement, the company has installed 12 speed breakers, several zebra crossings, and 40 retro-reflective signboards, along with thermoplastic markings over a 6 km stretch. Additionally, BALCO organizes training sessions to enhance awareness of fire prevention measures. Through continuous educational initiatives, BALCO is committed to strengthening the safety culture within the community.
