Bike Ambulance Service Proves to Be a Boon in Remote Areas

Emergency Ambulance Service for Those in Need

TFP Bureau, Raipur; June 28, 2024:  Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, efforts to enhance healthcare facilities in the state continue. A notable initiative is the introduction of a bike ambulance service by the district administration in the inaccessible villages of Kota block, Bilaspur district. This service has become a lifeline for the residents of these remote areas.

Led by Collector Mr. Avneesh Sharan, the ‘Sangwari Express’ bike ambulance service aims to extend healthcare to the villages of Kota block. Currently, four bike ambulances operate around the clock, providing crucial transportation to hospitals for those in need. The challenging geography of Kota block often renders traditional road access impossible, making the bike ambulance an invaluable and free service for emergency medical transport.

The ‘Sangwari Express’ bikes are designed like mini-ambulances, capable of transporting patients without inconvenience. This service, similar to other state-provided public health ambulances, is entirely free and particularly beneficial for pregnant women and residents of the remote forest areas.

Assistance to Thousands of Patients

Since the bike ambulance service began in Kota block, it has directly benefited 1,339 patients across various categories. The service has reached 385 patients at Shivtarai PHC, 322 at Belgahna PHC, 366 at Kenda PHC, and 266 in Amagaon. Pregnant women from forest areas are transported to medical centers for deliveries, and postpartum mothers are safely taken home afterward.

Beneficial for Children As Well

The bike ambulance also supports regular health check-ups for pregnant mothers, child vaccinations, and treatment for seasonal illnesses. Villagers have expressed their gratitude, noting the ease of accessing medical care that was previously unavailable due to transportation challenges.

Mrs. Roshni from Bagdhara village shared her positive experience, having been taken to the hospital for delivery via the bike ambulance. Mrs. Ishwari Gond from Mohli village called the service life-saving, recounting how she was transported to the Amagaon Government Hospital at 11 PM for delivery, ensuring the safety of both her and her baby. Mr. Mahesh Dhanwad, a 27-year-old from Tuluf Gram Panchayat, who was bitten by a snake, was swiftly taken to the hospital by the bike ambulance, receiving prompt treatment that saved his life.
