TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 3, 2024: Social Welfare Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade chaired a comprehensive review meeting of the Social Welfare Department at Mahanadi Bhawan. Emphasizing the importance of skill development for persons with disabilities, Minister Rajwade highlighted the need to connect them to self-employment opportunities.
Minister Rajwade instructed officials to enhance the management of old-age homes, homes for children with disabilities, and other rehabilitation centres. She directed that all districts should ensure arrangements for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, providing them with employment-oriented training. “Our focus should be on empowering people with disabilities through skill development and self-employment,” she stated.
Minister Rajwade urged officials to inspect old age homes and institutions receiving grants for children with disabilities to ensure proper arrangements. She also called for training children with disabilities in various trades under the Mukhyamantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, tailored to their interests.
The minister stressed the importance of providing welfare services to the elderly and persons with disabilities with a spirit of service. She directed officials to ensure that homeless, destitute, nomadic persons with disabilities, children, and women found in public places are taken to rehabilitation centres.
Emphasizing the need for physical verification of pension cases, Minister Rajwade prioritized the provision of pension benefits to eligible beneficiaries. She also directed the wide publicity of the department’s helpline number.
Minister Rajwade addressed the registration of transgender individuals, ensuring their access to ration cards, Ayushman cards, and other departmental schemes. She instructed officials to organize camps for UDID (Unique Disability ID) registration and to provide disability certificates through medical boards.
She also emphasized the provision of necessary equipment such as physiotherapy devices, artificial limbs, crutches, hearing aids, and tricycles to needy children, women, youth, and the elderly.
Minister Rajwade reviewed various departmental schemes, including the Kritrim Ang Evam Sahayak Upakaran Pradayay Yojana, Samarthya Vikas Yojana, Nishaktjan Vivah Protsahan Yojana, and the National Program for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities.
Secretary of the Social Welfare Department Shri Bhuvanesh Yadav, Director of Social Welfare Department Smt. Roktima Yadav, and other departmental officials were present at the meeting.
