Coal Mining Essential for Development, Says Mr. Meena

Review Meeting on Coal Projects Concludes in Raipur

TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 4, 2024: A high-level meeting of officials from the Central Government and Chhattisgarh Government was held today at the Ministry Mahanadi Bhawan to review the progress of coal projects in the state. The meeting was presided over by Shri Amritlal Meena, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, and the Chief Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Government.

The detailed review focused on coal projects operating in the Korba and Raigarh districts. Positive discussions were held between the Collectors of Korba and Raigarh and officials from South East Coal Field Limited regarding land acquisition and compensation for these projects. Additionally, there were extensive discussions on coal distribution for various projects and meeting the production targets set by South East Coal Field Limited.

Shri Amritlal Meena emphasized the importance of continuous coal production for the country’s development and energy projects. He highlighted the need for cooperation from local administrations for acquiring forest, revenue, and private land for coal mining. He urged prompt settlement of compensation cases for land acquisition according to regulations and called for coordinated efforts among officials from Coal Fields Limited, the Forest Department, Housing and Environment, and District Administration to resolve necessary clearances for land acquisition.

The meeting also addressed the swift resolution of land acquisition issues for the Chhattisgarh East West Rail Corridor.

Key officials participating in the meeting via video conference included Mrs. Richa Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest and Climate Change Department, Mr. Sunil Mishra, PCCF, Mr. P. Dayanand, Secretary to the Energy and Mineral Department and Chief Minister, and Ms. R. Sangeeta, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Environment Board. Officials from South East Coal Fields Limited, Chhattisgarh East West Rail Limited, and the Collectors of Korba, Raigarh, and Surguja were also present.
