TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 5, 2024: Students in Korba district no longer have to worry about rainwater dripping from school roofs, thanks to the recent renovation of more than 500 schools. This improvement has significantly eased the challenges faced by students like Ratni Bai, a fifth-grader, and Sunil, a fourth-grader, both from the Pahadi Korwa tribe, who recall the days when they had to protect their books and themselves from getting wet during rains.
The village of Chhatasarai, home to the Pahadi Korwas, is now witnessing positive changes. The renovation of the local school building, located in a remote forest area, has brought much-needed relief to the students. Teacher Pardeshi Ram confirmed that the roof no longer leaks, making it easier to conduct classes without interruption.
Ratni Bai recounted the struggles of sitting on wet floors after a night’s rain. Sunil shared that the repaired building has eliminated these difficulties, a sentiment echoed by fellow students Anita and Om Kumar. The children are now happy to have dry classrooms, along with notebooks, books, uniforms, and midday meals provided by the school.
The renovation project, completed in 536 schools, is still ongoing in 64 more. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to enhance the educational environment under the directives of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. In addition, 129 unemployed youths from special backward tribal families have been appointed as assistant teachers and peons on an honorarium basis in nearby schools, thanks to the efforts of Collector Ajit Vasant.
Furthermore, the district is set to appoint 118 subject-specialist teachers in higher secondary and high schools, ensuring a robust educational framework for the students of Korba. These initiatives mark a significant step towards improving education and providing better opportunities for the region’s children.
