TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 8, 2024: The ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ in Chhattisgarh is proving to be a boon for parents from economically weaker backgrounds, easing their financial burden when it comes to their daughters’ marriages. Often faced with worries as their daughters reach marriageable age, parents dream of celebrating lavishly but find themselves constrained by financial limitations. The state-sponsored scheme aims to alleviate these concerns and promote social equality through mass marriages.
Under the scheme, the Chhattisgarh government provides substantial financial assistance. Each eligible girl receives Rs 21,000 directly through bank transfer or bank draft, in addition to gifts worth Rs 15,000. In the fiscal year 2023-24, 160 couples benefitted from the scheme in the district, highlighting its significant impact on local communities.
Smt. Rajkumari Dewangan, a beneficiary from Mahasamund Ward No. 5, expressed her gratitude, saying,
“I got married on March 12 this year under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. My father is no longer with us, and my family was worried about arranging my marriage. Thanks to this scheme and the support from the Anganwadi worker, I found happiness with my husband. My family is deeply thankful for this government initiative.”
Another beneficiary, Smt. Rakhi Sikka, shared similar sentiments, stating,
“Due to financial hardships, arranging my marriage seemed like an impossible task for my family. This scheme has made a world of difference for us.” Both beneficiaries credited Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai for implementing the scheme, acknowledging its role in relieving their families of financial stress.
The ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ continues to be a cornerstone of support for families across Chhattisgarh, exemplifying the government’s commitment to empowering its citizens and promoting social welfare.
