Chhattisgarh Boosts Road Safety with High-Tech Interceptor Vehicles

Chief Minister Emphasizes Importance of Traffic Rule Compliance for Safe Travel

TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 12, 2024: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, flagged off 15 new high-tech interceptor vehicles today, underscoring the state’s commitment to preventing road accidents through enhanced traffic management.

During the ceremony at his residence, Chief Minister Sai stressed that preventing road accidents is a top priority for the state government. He emphasized that adherence to traffic rules ensures safe travel and fosters a sense of security among road users. “In view of the increasing number of road accidents, it is imperative to be vigilant and serious about following traffic regulations,” he said, urging residents to comply with these rules to respect the rights of fellow commuters.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, Member of Parliament Shri Santosh Pandey, MLA Shri Anuj Sharma, Director General of Police Shri Ashok Juneja, and other senior police officials attended the event. The Chief Minister reviewed the technical features and utility of the new interceptor vehicles.

Highlighting the collective responsibility for road safety, Chief Minister Sai noted that thousands of people lose their lives in road accidents annually, with many suffering permanent disabilities. He emphasized that cooperation from all societal segments is crucial for preventing chaos and ensuring smooth, safe journeys.

The newly deployed interceptor vehicles will monitor traffic rule violators, focusing on raising awareness rather than collecting fines. Equipped with modern technology, including loudspeakers and 360-degree surveillance cameras, these vehicles are essential for addressing issues like overspeeding, drunk driving, excessive headlight glare, loud vehicle sound systems, and violations related to dark window tints.

The procurement of these vehicles was funded by the Road Safety Fund, following administrative approval from the State-Level Road Safety Fund Management Committee. The vehicles will be deployed across 15 districts: Raipur, Balodabazar, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Durg, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Bilaspur, Korba, Janjgir, Raigarh, Surguja, Jagdalpur, and Kanker. Employees in these districts have been trained to operate the interceptor vehicles effectively.
