TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 20, 2024: The Jal Jeevan Mission, a government initiative aimed at providing clean drinking water to rural households, has effectively addressed water scarcity in various villages across India. In addition to ensuring a safe water supply, the mission is promoting water conservation among rural communities. Under the directive of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the mission is rapidly advancing throughout Chhattisgarh, with notable success in Bhuigaon village, located in the Charama block of Uttar Bastar Kanker district, 30 kilometers from the district headquarters.
Before the mission’s implementation, Bhuigaon villagers, especially women and children, faced long daily journeys to fetch water. The reliance on borewells due to water scarcity had significantly depleted the groundwater levels. To combat this, the Public Health Engineering Division of Kanker devised a comprehensive plan under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The initiative began with a thorough assessment of the village’s water needs, followed by the installation of tap water connections for each household. A new water tank was constructed, and pipelines were laid to transport water from a nearby source to the village. Rigorous quality checks were conducted to ensure the safety of the water supply.
Villagers were trained and provided with water testing kits to monitor the water quality, as shared by the Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department. The state government also conducted awareness campaigns and organized training sessions on water management, conservation, and sanitation. These efforts have not only improved water accessibility but have also fostered a sense of optimism and self-reliance among the villagers.
The concerted efforts of the Public Health Engineering Department and a non-governmental organization have significantly raised awareness about the importance and benefits of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Today, the residents of Bhuigaon acknowledge the profound transformation brought about by this initiative, which has alleviated their water woes and improved their livelihoods.
