Chhattisgarh’s Teacher-Student Ratio Surpasses National Average

Subject specialist teachers to be posted in all schools through rationalization

TFP Bureau, Raipur; July 22; 2024: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai announced during the Question Hour in the Assembly that Chhattisgarh boasts a better teacher-student ratio than the national average. Nationally, there is one teacher for every 26 students, whereas in Chhattisgarh, the ratio is one teacher for every 21 students.

The Chief Minister acknowledged existing irregularities in teacher postings, which have led to perceived shortages. Rationalization will be prioritized to address these issues. In some schools, subject specialists are absent despite the availability of faculty, while others have more teachers than needed based on the state ratio. Instances where one teacher serves only 4-5 students have been identified for rationalization. This process will ensure that all schools have the necessary teaching staff, enhancing the overall quality of education.

Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure alongside teacher allocation.

The completion of the rationalization process will ensure that teachers are available in all schools across Chhattisgarh, positively impacting the state’s education system and addressing teacher shortages where they have been most acute.
