TFP Bureau, Raipur; August 8, 2024: Amid the disappointment surrounding Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics, a heartening story has emerged from Chhattisgarh, uplifting the spirits of aspiring athletes across the state. Tribal fencing player Reeba Benni has brought pride to Chhattisgarh by winning a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand, a feat made possible through the support of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
Reeba’s journey to the Commonwealth Games was fraught with challenges, primarily due to a lack of financial resources. However, during a “Jandarshan” program at the Chief Minister’s residence, her situation was brought to light. Recognizing her potential, Chief Minister Sai swiftly approved a grant of four lakh rupees to cover her travel and participation expenses.
Thanks to this crucial intervention, Reeba was able to compete and ultimately secure a silver medal, making her state proud. In a touching moment of gratitude, Reeba’s parents visited the Chief Minister’s residence during the weekly “Jandarshan” program, where they presented him with a coconut—a traditional gesture of thanks and respect.
Reeba Benni’s success story underscores the vital importance of timely support and leadership in empowering young athletes to achieve their dreams and represent India on the international stage.
