TFP Bureau, Bilaspur, August 11, 2024: The 9th Round of the State Level Stakeholders’ Consultation on the Protection of Children with Disabilities was held today at the High Court of Chhattisgarh, showcasing a significant commitment to improving the lives of children with disabilities. The event was organized by the High Court Juvenile Justice Committee, in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy and the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority.
The inauguration began with Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha lighting the ceremonial lamp, setting the tone for a day focused on addressing the challenges faced by disabled children in accessing education, healthcare, and societal integration. In his opening remarks, Chief Justice Sinha emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts in legislative enforcement, inclusive education, and healthcare improvements. He called for enhanced social safeguards and inter-departmental collaboration to ensure every child’s fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
Referencing Mahatma Gandhi’s quote on measuring society by how it treats its most vulnerable, Chief Justice Sinha highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to improve policy effectiveness. He also underscored the significance of sensitization regarding the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act to provide timely assistance for victims of rape.
During the consultation, an informative flip chart detailing the roles of stakeholders in the implementation of the MTP Act was released. This chart aims to raise awareness and ensure proper execution at the grassroots level.
The event featured special addresses from Hon’ble Mr. Justice Goutam Bhaduri, Chairman of the High Court Committee on Juvenile Justice, and keynote speeches from Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari.
In addition to the consultations, the High Court gallery showcased artwork created by children with disabilities, including paintings and crafts, which were met with admiration from attendees, including Chief Justice Sinha, who interacted with and encouraged the young artists.
The consultation included two technical sessions focusing on the well-being of disabled children in special homes and the provision of judicial process information to children in conflict with the law. These sessions were chaired by various dignitaries, including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Goutam Bhaduri and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Agrawal, with presentations from representatives of UNICEF and several state departments.
The event, attended by high court judges, government officials, and representatives from various organizations, provided a platform for meaningful discussions and strategic planning aimed at enhancing the welfare and rights of children with disabilities across Chhattisgarh.
