TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 12, 2024: In a bid to empower women in remote forest regions of Dantewada and create new employment opportunities, the Horticulture Department has initiated a flower cultivation program by distributing free saplings to local women self-help groups (SHGs). A total of 45 women from these groups are now cultivating flowers on 4 acres of land in the district.
Supported by the District Administration and the Bihan scheme, the Horticulture Department has provided extensive training to the women from the villages of Tudparas, Bhogam, and Bhairamband. This initiative aims to equip them with the skills needed for successful flower cultivation. Once harvested, these women will create garlands and bouquets, which they plan to sell at the Maa Danteshwari Temple courtyard in Dantewada, ensuring a steady source of income.
Under the guidance of Shri Ajit Shasni from the Horticulture Department, Dantewada, and the Director of the CSIR National Botanical Research Institute in Lucknow, more than 60,000 saplings of various flowers have been distributed to the SHGs. This initiative not only promotes agricultural diversity but also strengthens the economic independence of women in these rural communities.
