Government of India Commits Rs 30 Crore for Chhattisgarh Police Modernization

TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 25, 2024: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah today praised the Chhattisgarh government for its substantial progress in the ongoing anti-Maoist campaign, stating that the state has achieved notable success on every front of the battle against Maoist terror. During a review meeting in Raipur, Shah highlighted that the last eight months have seen unprecedented efforts to curb Maoist influence in the region, with Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai’s administration significantly reducing the area under Maoist control.

The Home Minister acknowledged the swift and effective actions taken by the Chhattisgarh government, which have resulted in the neutralization of 150 Maoist terrorists and the surrender of four times as many individuals compared to previous efforts. Shah urged the state to continue this momentum, emphasizing the importance of sustained pressure on Maoist groups.

Shah assured that the Government of India stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to Chhattisgarh in its fight against Naxalism. He stressed the importance of collaboration between central and state agencies to dismantle the financial networks that support Maoist activities. Additionally, Shah called for community awareness programs in Naxal-affected areas to educate the public about government schemes and their benefits.

The Union Home Minister underscored the need to fully implement all 300 central and state government schemes in Maoist-affected areas, ensuring that the benefits reach 100% of the population. He highlighted that the key to ending armed movements lies in building trust between the government and the people. Shah also announced a grant of Rs 30 crore for the modernization of the Chhattisgarh Police, a move aimed at strengthening the state’s law enforcement capabilities.

During the meeting, Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police, Shri Ashok Juneja, presented an overview of the security arrangements and the progress of the anti-Maoist campaign. Shah directed officials to provide maximum support to the people in Naxal-affected regions and to ensure widespread awareness of the surrender scheme, noting that many Maoists in Chhattisgarh are now expressing a desire to surrender.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Union Minister of State for Home Shri Nityanand Rai, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Shri Govind Mohan, as well as the Director Generals of IB, NIA, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, and other senior officials from central and state governments.
