Congress Holds Silent Dharna Across Chhattisgarh to Protest Rising Crime and Deteriorating Law and Order

Congress leaders and supporters stage silent protests in all district headquarters, condemning the surge in crimes against women and the breakdown of law and order.

TFP Bureau, Raipur; September 3, 2024: The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee organized silent dharna protests across all district headquarters in the state, voicing strong opposition to the escalating crime rates, particularly against women, and the deteriorating law and order situation under the current government. Key leaders, including State Congress President Deepak Baij, Leader of Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant, and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, participated in the protests at Bilaspur, Raipur, and Dharsiwa, respectively.

Addressing the gathering in Bilaspur, Deepak Baij criticized the ruling administration, stating that crimes against women have surged alarmingly under the Say government.

“The state has seen a disturbing rise in heinous crimes, particularly rapes involving innocent girls. Reports of gang rapes involving multiple victims are now a daily occurrence. In just nine months, over 600 murders have taken place, and the once peaceful Chhattisgarh is now gripped by fear and chaos,” Baij remarked.

He highlighted specific incidents that have shaken the state, including the burning of the SP and Collector’s offices, an increase in cow smuggling, and a tragic case where a young girl died after being set on fire in a Pota Cabin. Baij also pointed to cases of molestation in schools, such as the one in Narayanpur, and the rise in violent crimes like robberies, gang rapes, and stabbings.

“Crime and criminals have become rampant, and the administration seems powerless to control them,” he added.

Silent protests were held in cities and rural areas across the state, including Raipur, Balodabazar, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Durg, Bhilai, Bemetara, Rajnandgaon, Jagdalpur, Bastar, Sukma, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Bijapur, Kanker, Dantewada, Bilaspur, Korba, Janjgir Champa, Raigarh, Jashpur, Surguja, Balrampur, and Korea.

The state-wide protests underscored the Congress party’s deep concern over the safety and security of the citizens and the perceived failure of the government to maintain law and order.
