Vedanta BALCO Reaffirms Commitment to Engineering Excellence on World Engineering Day

BALCO celebrates its diverse engineering workforce, driving innovation and operational excellence in India’s aluminium industry

TFP Bureau, Korba; September 18, 2024: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a leading name in India’s aluminium sector and part of Vedanta Aluminium, marked World Engineering Day by reinforcing its commitment to fostering engineering talent and promoting innovation. With a workforce of over 1,500 engineers across diverse fields such as metallurgy, mining, environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineering, BALCO plays a vital role in advancing India’s manufacturing capabilities.

CEO & Director of BALCO, Rajesh Kumar, emphasised the critical role engineers play in the company’s operations, saying, “Our engineers are at the heart of Vedanta BALCO’s innovation and success. By reaffirming our commitment to their growth and development, we are contributing not only to our company’s excellence but also to India’s broader ambition of becoming a global manufacturing leader.”

BALCO engineers shared their experiences of working at the company, reflecting on how innovation, technical mastery, and a culture of continuous improvement have been the cornerstones of their careers. Anuj Sood, an electronics and telecommunication engineer who has spent 18 years at BALCO, noted the company’s relentless focus on operational efficiency in its potlines, where aluminium is produced through electrolysis. “BALCO continually pushes the boundaries of efficiency. The complexity of the mechanical systems we work with demands both expertise and innovation,” he said.

Newer employees, like metallurgical engineer Ishan Chaturvedi, also praised BALCO’s commitment to integrating advanced technology with sustainability. “Starting my career here has been an incredible opportunity. BALCO upholds its legacy as an iconic aluminium producer by merging cutting-edge technology with a focus on sustainability,” Chaturvedi remarked.

For production engineer Nisha Manjhi, who manages process control in the potlines, working at BALCO has been both challenging and fulfilling. “There’s a misconception that women can’t thrive in such environments, but my experience has been the opposite. BALCO values technical skill and innovation above all else, and I’ve had every opportunity to grow and contribute to our operations,” she said.

With its engineers at the forefront, Vedanta BALCO continues to set new benchmarks in operational excellence, driving India’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing leader.
