TFP Bureau, Raipur; September 20, 2024: In response to the tragic events in Loharidih village, Kabirdham district, where a series of violent incidents led to the deaths of two villagers, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has removed the district’s Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP). A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Raghunath Sahu, which occurred after arson broke out following the death of another villager, Shivprasad Sahu, on September 15.
Chief Minister Sai acted swiftly by removing a total of 23 police officers, including the Inspector and Assistant Sub-Inspector of Rengakhar police station, after reports emerged that villagers were beaten by police personnel during the unrest.
As part of the administrative overhaul, Gopal Verma has been appointed as the new Collector of Kabirdham district, replacing Janmejaya Mahobe. Similarly, Rajesh Kumar Agarwal has taken over as the new Superintendent of Police, following the removal of Abhishek Pallav. The Chief Minister’s actions come in the wake of the suspension of IPS officer Vikas Kumar, who had been serving as Additional Superintendent of Police in the district.
In compliance with Chief Minister Sai’s directive for a magisterial inquiry, Kabirdham’s Collector has appointed Additional District Magistrate Nirbhay Kumar Sahu to lead the investigation. The inquiry will focus on specific points surrounding the incident, and a detailed report is expected within 30 days.
Chief Minister Sai has made it clear that negligence in handling such incidents will not be tolerated in the future, and strict action will be taken against those responsible. The swift measures reflect his administration’s commitment to ensuring accountability and justice in the wake of the violence in Loharidih.
