Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha Calls for Bold and Expeditious Justice at Divisional Judicial Seminar

Over 100 Judicial Officers gather in Raipur to discuss evolving challenges in modern jurisprudence

TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 22, 2024: In a landmark event, Hon’ble Chief Justice Shri Ramesh Sinha of the Chhattisgarh High Court delivered a powerful keynote address at the Divisional Judicial Seminar held at the New Convention Hall, Raipur. Organized by the Chhattisgarh State Judicial Academy, the seminar brought together 111 judicial officers from four civil districts, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s judicial community.

In his address, Chief Justice Sinha emphasized the judiciary’s role as the guardian of public trust, urging officers to deliver unbiased and timely justice. “What does a common man expect from the judiciary? He wants justice—unbiased and expeditious. Judges must remain above suspicion, guided by integrity and intellectual honesty,” he stated, stressing the vital importance of fairness in legal proceedings.

The Chief Justice further highlighted the importance of continuous learning for judicial officers, pointing out that seminars like this are crucial for staying updated on legal developments and sharing best practices. He specifically addressed issues surrounding the implementation of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act for rape victims, urging a more practical application of legal provisions to avoid victims having to approach higher courts unnecessarily.

Chief Justice Sinha also raised concerns about delays in civil trials, often caused by interlocutory applications, and encouraged judicial officers to be bold and decisive. “Judges must ensure that the law is used as an instrument of justice, not oppression,” he asserted, promising the High Court’s support for officers acting in pursuit of justice.

With an eye on the future, Chief Justice Sinha discussed the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence, technological advancements, and forensic evidence in the justice system, quoting the renowned jurist Nani Palkhivala: “The law cannot afford to stay static while society advances.”

The seminar also featured participation from Hon’ble Mr. Justice Parth Prateem Sahu of the Chhattisgarh High Court, along with Registrar General, Principal Secretary (Law), and judicial officers from Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Mahasamund, and Dhamtari districts. Together, they delved into pressing legal issues and explored ways to enhance judicial efficiency amidst evolving societal challenges.

The seminar served as a platform for collaborative learning, reinforcing the responsibility of judicial officers as custodians of justice in today’s rapidly changing world.
