TFP Bureau, New Delhi, October 5, 2024: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s leading aluminium producer, marked National Nutrition Month 2024 by launching an array of health and nutrition initiatives across its operational areas. The campaign, specifically designed to engage children, adolescents, and mothers, highlighted the importance of a balanced diet and nutritious food choices, aligning with this year’s national theme, ‘Nutritious Diet for Everyone.’
Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of Vedanta Aluminium, emphasized the company’s commitment to community well-being, stating, “Nutrition is essential to the health of our communities, and Vedanta Aluminium is dedicated to making a lasting impact. By engaging with local communities, we aim to raise awareness about nutritious food and encourage healthier lifestyle choices. At Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a part of Vedanta Aluminium, the company observed POSHAN Maah by enhancing nutrition and health awareness through its Nand Ghars, modernized anganwadis supported by Vedanta. These activities included recipe training for ‘Take Home Ration,’ anemia screening health camps, and focused care for pregnant and lactating mothers. The celebrations culminated in a POSHAN Maah Samaapan Samaaroh on September 30, 2024, where “Champion Mothers” were honored, and the “Poshan Talks” video series and ‘Poshan Patrika’ newsletter were launched to promote sustainable nutritional practices.
D.S. Maravi, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department in Raipur, spoke at the event, underscoring the importance of collaboration between government and industry in advancing community health. “It is heartening to see BALCO’s initiatives, which address key issues like nutrition awareness and community engagement, strengthening our efforts to empower local communities through sustainable and healthy practices,” he said.
Vedanta Aluminium’s Lanjigarh refinery also actively participated in the month-long initiative, focusing on children, adolescents, and mothers. Activities included food exhibitions, cooking competitions, and health awareness drives, all aligned with the government’s goal of promoting a nutritious diet for all. Notably, the ‘Pehli Udaan’ project tackled adolescent health by launching an anemia eradication program, accompanied by community-driven vegetable garden projects. Over 700 people benefited from the distribution of protein shakes and nutrition kits in the Nand Ghars.
In Jharsuguda, the company provided 17,500 units of millet protein shakes to the District Welfare Officer for distribution across 175 Nand Ghars, ensuring nutritional support for children and mothers.
