Commemorative Stamp Marks 25 Years of Mundra Port’s Growth and Achievements

Celebration highlights port’s transformation into India’s largest maritime hub and its role in boosting the nation’s economic development

TFP Bureau, Ahmedabad, October 10, 2024: To mark the 25th anniversary of Mundra Port, a special commemorative stamp was released on World Post Day, symbolizing the port’s pivotal role in India’s maritime and economic landscape. As the nation’s largest commercial port, Mundra has grown into a global shipping hub, significantly contributing to India’s trade and economic development over the past quarter century.

The stamp was unveiled by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, alongside senior officials including Rajesh Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises Ltd, and Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). Postmaster General Ganesh V Sawaleshwarkar and Krishna Kumar Yadav also attended the event.

Mundra Port, established by the Adani Group on what was once barren land, has become a critical gateway for India’s international trade and a major driver of economic growth. From a single jetty, the port has expanded into a massive shipping hub, handling 11% of India’s maritime cargo and 33% of the country’s container traffic. Over its 25-year journey, the port has contributed over ₹2.25 lakh crore to state and national revenues, generated more than 7.5 crore man-days of employment, and attracted investments worth over ₹70,000 crore.

Karan Adani, speaking at the release, emphasized the importance of the port to the local community and the nation. “This commemorative stamp represents not just the legacy of Mundra Port but our partnership of trust with the people of Gujarat and the supportive policies of the state government,” he said. “Together, we have turned a vast wasteland into India’s largest port, driving economic development and supporting India’s ambition to be a leader in global trade.”

In addition to the commemorative stamp, India Post also introduced a special cover and stamp cancellation, further commemorating the occasion. The stamp sheet, titled “25 Years of Progress – Mundra Port,” features a visual narrative of the port’s transformation and was produced in collaboration with APSEZ. A total of 60,000 stamps have been printed at the Security Printing Press in Hyderabad, and they will be available for purchase through India Post’s ePortal.

A copy of the stamp sheet will also be displayed permanently at the National Philatelic Museum in New Delhi, celebrating the port’s remarkable contributions to India’s maritime industry.
