TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 25, 2024: On her two-day visit to Chhattisgarh, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the 9th installment of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, transferring a total of Rs 651.37 crore to the bank accounts of 69.68 lakh women across the state. The distribution event took place at Purkhauti Muktangan on Friday, just before Diwali, with each beneficiary receiving Rs 1000 directly in their accounts, making the total aid disbursed through the scheme reach Rs 5878.37 crore.
The ceremony, attended by Governor Shri Ramen Deka, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, and several Union and state ministers, highlighted the government’s commitment to the health, nutrition, and economic empowerment of women. The Mahtari Vandan Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 1, 2024, is designed to support married women above 21 years old with a monthly financial aid of Rs 1000, promoting their economic independence and well-being.
During the event, President Murmu interacted with beneficiaries like Smt. Mamta Kashyap and Smt. Satyavati Dhruv, who shared how the funds helped them provide for their families. President Murmu encouraged them to utilize the financial assistance to educate their children, highlighting the impact of education on family and community advancement. “Only when children study and achieve can families and society progress,” she emphasized.
One of the program’s beneficiaries, Mamta Kashyap, a tribal woman from Bastar, expressed her joy in meeting the President, calling it one of the most memorable moments of her life. “The Mahtari Vandan Yojana gives me a sense of financial security,” she said. Kashyap shared that she eagerly awaits the monthly deposit notification on her phone, especially this month as she plans to buy Diwali gifts and pay her son’s tuition fees.
The event saw participation from women dressed in traditional attire from Raipur, Dhamtari, Gariaband, Bastar, and Surguja, symbolizing the cultural diversity and spirit of the state. High-ranking officials, including Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain and Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, were also present.
As Chhattisgarh continues to focus on women’s empowerment and economic resilience, Mahtari Vandan Yojana is recognized as a crucial step in providing stability and resources for women across the state.
