TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 4, 2024: In a press conference held at Rajiv Bhawan, State Congress President Deepak Baij expressed grave concerns over the worsening law and order situation in Chhattisgarh. Baij reported that during the three days of the Diwali festival, there were seven murders in Raipur and four in Bhilai, bringing the total to 11 murders in just a few days in the capital region. He criticized the government for failing to maintain public safety during a significant national celebration.
Baij characterized the situation as alarming, stating, “The law and order in Chhattisgarh has deteriorated to a level worse than in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. It is unprecedented that violence is occurring on a caste basis, and there have been riots in places like Sakri village where properties were set ablaze.” He detailed a recent incident in which an 11-member family narrowly escaped a violent attack.
Highlighting the insecurity plaguing even religious sites, Baij recounted an attack at the Damakheda Ashram, a prominent pilgrimage destination for the Kabir sect. He reported that a group of 50-60 individuals attempted to set the ashram on fire, leading to injuries among the worshippers present.
The Congress President criticized the government’s response to recent violence, citing incidents of vandalism and public outrage in Balodabazar and Surajpur. He claimed that a lack of police accountability and negligence contributed to these crises, leading to public anger directed at government officials.
“The public has lost faith in the government and police,” Baij stated, stressing the need for action. He urged the immediate removal of both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, calling their administration incompetent in safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens.
The press conference was attended by Communication Department Chairman Sushil Anand Shukla and spokesperson Satya Prakash Singh, who echoed Baij’s concerns regarding the rising violence and lawlessness in the state.
