TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 27, 2024: A key review meeting was held today under the chairmanship of State Election Commissioner Shri Ajay Singh, focused on the preparations for the upcoming local body elections. Senior officials from the Bilaspur and Surguja divisions, including Divisional Commissioners, Inspectors General of Police, Collectors, Superintendents of Police, and Deputy District Election Officers, attended the meeting at the Manthan Sabhakaksha in Bilaspur Collectorate.
Shri Ajay Singh emphasized the importance of completing all election-related preparations ahead of schedule. He reviewed key aspects such as security arrangements, the condition of polling stations, and other logistics essential for ensuring a smooth and safe election process.
Voter List and Electoral Roll Updates
During the meeting, the Election Commissioner outlined the ongoing process for updating the voter list. He stressed that all eligible individuals who turned 18 by October 1, 2024, must be included in the voter list, with the final addition of names set to close by tomorrow, November 27. The Commissioner also directed that the voter list used for the local body elections must accurately reflect the final electoral roll issued by the Election Commission of India, ensuring no discrepancies in the voter list.
Shri Ajay Singh further urged officials to ensure transparency in the voting process, increase voter awareness, and maintain a peaceful environment during the election period. He also noted that electoral roll updates and compliance with previous guidelines would be monitored closely.
Upcoming Review Meetings and Security Measures
To further review preparations, meetings will be held with senior officials from the Raipur and Durg divisions on November 29, and the Jagdalpur division on December 4. A state-level meeting involving the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police will follow, where the official election program will be announced.
In addition, the Commissioner stressed the need for enhanced security and law enforcement during the elections, along with adequate facilities at polling stations and proper staffing. He also emphasized the importance of timely communication with political party representatives to ensure a smooth election process.
The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including Divisional Commissioner Shri Mahadev Kavre, Surguja Division IG Shri Ankit Garg, Bilaspur Collector Shri Avnish Sharan, and Secretary of the State Election Commission Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, among others. The discussions aimed at reinforcing coordination and cooperation among all stakeholders to guarantee the seamless conduct of the local body elections.
