TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 27, 2024: The capital city of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, is set to host the *National Games of Eklavya Adarsh Residential Schools* from December 15 to 19, 2024. This prestigious event, showcasing sports talent from across the nation, will see participation from around 6,000 student-athletes representing 25 states.
A meeting of the State Level Organizing Committee for the event was held today at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan, chaired by Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain. During the meeting, Shri Jain provided guidelines to ensure the smooth organization of the competition, covering essential aspects such as accommodation, transportation, security, sports venues, and utility arrangements.
Principal Secretary of Tribal and Scheduled Caste Development Department, Shri Sonamni Bora, highlighted the objective of the event, stating, “This competition aims to identify, enhance, and promote the sports talent of Scheduled Tribe students, giving them a platform to showcase their abilities and fostering a culture of sports.”
The games will feature 23 disciplines, including archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, chess, gymnastics, judo, yoga, tennis, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, wrestling, basketball, football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, and volleyball. Fifteen individual and doubles events, along with seven group sports, will be contested across various educational institutions and sports department facilities in Raipur.
For streamlined coordination, 26 departmental committees have been formed, and athlete registration will be conducted online through a dedicated portal.
Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Shri Himshikhar Gupta, along with officials from the School Education, Higher Education, Public Works, Urban Administration, Tourism, and Tribal Affairs departments, as well as the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, participated in the planning meeting.
The National Games are expected to not only celebrate the athletic prowess of Scheduled Tribe students but also highlight Raipur’s growing prominence as a hub for national-level sports events.
