TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 1, 2024: The Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana is transforming lives across Chhattisgarh, enabling households to embrace solar energy and eliminate their electricity bills. Beneficiaries of the scheme are praising it as a game-changer, offering financial relief and sustainable energy solutions.
Anurag Sharma, a resident of Bodri in Bilaspur district, installed a 7-kilowatt solar panel on his rooftop seven months ago. He recalls paying monthly electricity bills of Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 but says those days are now behind him. “Not only has my bill reduced to zero, but I am also generating surplus electricity,” he said, adding that the government’s Rs. 78,000 subsidy significantly eased the installation cost.
Similarly, Hemant Sahu of Patanjali Nagar in Dhamtari district shared that his solar panel was installed within a month of applying under the scheme. “Earlier, my electricity bill used to be Rs. 1,000. Now, I don’t have to worry about it at all,” he said. His wife, Geeta Sahu, expressed her satisfaction with the ability to charge their electric scooter at no extra cost.
The PM Suryaghar Yojana aims to illuminate 25,000 homes across the state using solar energy. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai highlighted the scheme’s dual benefits: affordable, sustainable electricity for households and job creation in solar panel installation and maintenance. “This initiative ensures electricity availability even in remote rural areas while promoting environmental conservation and improving rural lifestyles,” he said.
Under the scheme, urban and rural households are encouraged to install rooftop solar plants, which are linked to the electricity grid via net metering. Excess energy generated is supplied to the grid, resulting in zero electricity bills for consumers and additional income for surplus energy. Beneficiaries can receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month and subsidies ranging from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 78,000.
Interested citizens can register for the scheme via the PM Suryaghar web portal or mobile app. With its economic and environmental benefits, the initiative is rapidly gaining popularity and paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future in Chhattisgarh.
