Chhattisgarh CM Announces Increased Grants for Cow Shelters, Gau-Dham Development

Support for cattle care rises as state boosts funding, promotes public awareness, and launches expansive Gau-Dham projects.

TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 2, 2024: In a significant move to enhance cattle welfare in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai announced an increase in grants for cow shelters from ₹25 to ₹35 per cattle. Emphasizing the importance of protecting and promoting cows, the Chief Minister also unveiled plans for extensive public awareness campaigns across the state.

Addressing a gathering at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur during the appointment ceremony of the new Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Gau Seva Commission, Shri Visheshwar Singh Patel, CM Sai highlighted the cultural and economic significance of cows.

“Cows are a symbol of prosperity and hold a revered place in our traditions. We are committed to ensuring their safety and promoting milk production to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s Devbhog brand,” he stated.

The state has also rebranded its cow sanctuaries as **Gau-Dham**, with two major projects underway: a 50-acre facility in Jhalam, Bemetara district, set to open soon, and a 120-acre sanctuary in Kawardha, which is nearing completion.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao underscored the agricultural importance of cattle, urging residents to incorporate cow rearing into their livelihoods. Deputy CM Vijay Sharma noted the state’s vision to elevate animal husbandry as a key driver of economic growth, akin to Gujarat’s Amul model.

The event also included a visit to stalls showcasing cow-based products and featured addresses by prominent figures, including saints, community leaders, and government officials. The newly appointed Chairman, Shri Visheshwar Singh Patel, outlined the Gau Seva Commission’s initiatives and future plans, reiterating the government’s commitment to banning cow smuggling and slaughter.

The event witnessed the participation of key dignitaries, including former minister Shri Nanki Ram Kanwar and members of various state commissions, reflecting the administration’s unified effort to bolster cattle welfare in Chhattisgarh.
