TFP Bureau, Mumbai, December 4, 2024: Devendra Fadnavis has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra following a decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislative Party. The swearing-in ceremony will take place tomorrow at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Fadnavis, who has previously served as Chief Minister, will be joined by Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state.
The newly appointed Chief Minister is expected to meet Maharashtra’s Governor today to formally stake his claim to power and discuss the formation of his government.
In the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly, the BJP has emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, followed by Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction with 57 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction with 41 seats. The opposition parties include Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena with 20 seats and Sharad Pawar’s NCP with 10 seats, while the Congress holds 16 seats. The majority mark in the assembly is 145 seats.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support, Fadnavis acknowledged the BJP’s commitment to good governance and development in Maharashtra.
