TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 6, 2024: The Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Smriti Medical College in Raipur hosted a grand *White Coat Ceremony* to welcome its newly admitted MBBS students. The event, which symbolizes the induction of students into the medical profession, saw 230 first-year students take the Maharishi Charak Oath, committing to the highest ethical standards in medicine. The Governor of Chhattisgarh, Shri Ramen Deka, attended as the chief guest.
In his address, Governor Deka emphasized the significance of the White Coat Ceremony, urging the students to honor their oath throughout their medical careers. “Medicine is not just a profession; it is a dignified service to humanity. Let this white coat remain spotless, symbolizing your dedication to ethics and compassion,” he said. Drawing inspiration from the *Charak Samhita*, he highlighted the importance of identifying the root causes of diseases and making critical decisions during life-saving moments. He also lauded the resilience and contributions of the medical community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Vivek Chaudhary, Dean of the medical college, expressed pride in administering the Maharishi Charak Oath to the incoming batch. “It is an honor to induct 230 future doctors into the noble profession in the presence of the Governor. This oath reminds us that beyond science, medicine is an art that requires lifelong learning and a compassionate heart,” he said.
Dr. Arvind Neral, President of the Medical Teachers Association, addressed the students on the ideals of the medical profession. He underscored that patients not only seek treatment but also kindness, empathy, and trust from their doctors. “Medicine is the most humane of sciences and the most scientific of humanities,” he added.
During the ceremony, the students pledged their commitment to ethical medical practices, led by Dean Chaudhary, raising their right hands in unison to repeat the words of the oath. The program also included a musical presentation by the students, titled *”Hum Tumhare Saath Hain – We Are the Doctors, We Are Always There for You,”* reflecting their dedication to societal service.
The event concluded with the distribution of gold medals to students who excelled in their MBBS studies, celebrating their academic achievements. The White Coat Ceremony marked a meaningful beginning for the aspiring doctors, as they step into a profession that demands integrity, knowledge, and compassion.
