TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 19, 2024: Governor and Chancellor Shri Ramen Deka convened a review meeting with private universities today to assess their educational activities, implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), and related initiatives. Emphasizing the importance of innovation, research, and entrepreneurship, Shri Deka directed the universities to focus on fostering startups and maintaining high educational standards while adhering strictly to University Grants Commission (UGC) norms.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Secretary of the Higher Education Department Shri R.K. Prasanna, Secretary to the Governor Shri Yashwant Kumar, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission Shri Brijesh Mishra, Joint Secretary to the Governor Mrs. Hina Animesh Netam, and Vice Chancellors from private universities across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Deka underlined the critical role of private universities in shaping the educational landscape. He called for strict compliance with UGC guidelines and governance norms, urging institutions to prioritize quality education over commercial interests. He praised the establishment of the Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission as a significant step toward improving oversight and accountability.
Shri Deka highlighted Raipur’s potential to develop as an education hub, calling for collective efforts to realize this vision. He also instructed universities to maintain academic calendars, appoint qualified teachers in accordance with UGC standards, and ensure that only eligible faculty members serve as Ph.D. supervisors. Additionally, he requested comprehensive data on Ph.D. degrees conferred by the universities to date.
The Governor stressed the need for collaboration with local industries to enhance students’ skill development and encouraged the adoption of student exchange programs. He also emphasized the importance of refresher courses and training for faculty to keep them updated in their fields. “Teachers must be equipped to inspire students and enhance the quality of education,” he stated, urging universities to establish Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with other institutions for continuous improvement in higher education.
He instructed universities to report on the implementation of decisions taken during the meeting in the next review, which will be held quarterly.
During the meeting, Higher Education Secretary Shri R.K. Prasanna highlighted the need for the proper implementation of the NEP and stressed the importance of digitizing student records, including degrees. He called for incorporating new research topics to align with the vision of a developed India and a developed Chhattisgarh. He also mentioned the state government’s plans to support private universities in research and innovation initiatives.
Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission Shri Brijesh Mishra shared insights into deficiencies identified during inspections of various universities and discussed measures for improvement.
Vice Chancellors of universities presented updates on their institutions’ progress, including the adoption of NEP 2020 and innovations in various fields.
Representatives from prominent private universities, including Kalinga University Raipur, Mats University Raipur, ICFAI University Durg, CV Raman University Bilaspur, and others, were present at the meeting.
Governor Deka concluded by emphasizing the importance of innovation in ensuring sustainable livelihoods for students and reiterated his commitment to monitoring progress through regular reviews.
