Central Jail Raipur Hosts Meditation and Yoga Camp on First International Meditation Day

200 Inmates and Officers Join Initiative to Promote Mental and Physical Wellness

TFP Bureau, Raipur, December 21, 2024: To mark the first-ever International Meditation Day, a meditation and yoga camp was held at Central Jail Raipur, bringing together 200 inmates, jail officers, and staff. The camp was led by Shri Ajay Singh, a senior Art of Living instructor and former member of the Yoga Commission, with the aim of promoting mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical well-being.

Shri Ajay Singh highlighted the significance of International Meditation Day, recently declared by the United Nations to raise awareness about the benefits of meditation. He described meditation as a powerful tool to reduce stress, improve emotional stability, and enhance sleep quality. Addressing the participants, he encouraged them to incorporate meditation and yoga into their daily routines for long-term mental peace and resilience.

As part of the global celebrations, Shri Singh shared that Pujya Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar, founder of the Art of Living, was delivering a keynote address at the United Nations Headquarters, with participants from 180 countries joining online. In alignment with this global initiative, the camp at Central Jail Raipur aimed to foster the holistic well-being of inmates.

Jail Superintendent Shri Amit Shandilya also underscored the importance of meditation, stating that even a few minutes of practice daily can significantly reduce stress and bring mental peace.

The camp concluded with Shri Ajay Singh pledging to organize more specialized workshops in the future, focusing on yoga, pranayama, Sudarshan Kriya, and life-skills training. He emphasized that these programs would help bring positive transformations in the lives of inmates, fostering their physical, mental, and spiritual growth.

The session witnessed enthusiastic participation, with inmates actively engaging in yoga and meditation exercises, reflecting a promising step toward their rehabilitation and personal development.
