Technical Committee Formed to Tackle Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Chhattisgarh

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 8, 2025: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has instructed states across India to enhance awareness about Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus of growing concern. In line with this directive, the Chhattisgarh government has constituted a technical committee to monitor the state’s preparedness and devise strategies to combat HMPV infections.

The five-member committee, chaired by Dr. S.K. Pambhoi, Director of Epidemic Control, is tasked with formulating recommendations on prevention, awareness, and future action plans to mitigate the impact of HMPV. The team includes Deputy Directors Dr. Khemraj Sonwani and Dr. Dharmendra Gahwai, along with State Advisors to ISDP, Mrs. Akanksha Rana and Ms. Chaynika Nag.

The committee will provide regular updates to the Health Department, ensuring effective surveillance and response measures to safeguard public health in the state.
