Deepak Baij Accuses BJP of Hypocrisy Over Rising Cow Smuggling in State

Congress Alleges Cow Meat Trade Flourishes Under BJP’s ‘Double Engine’ Government

Deepak Baij

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 11, 2025:  State Congress President Deepak Baij launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, alleging that cow smuggling and the sale of cow meat have surged since the party came to power in the state. He accused the BJP of turning a blind eye to cow slaughter and claimed that RSS-affiliated organizations were engaging in “political hypocrisy” by pretending to protest against these activities while shielding the government’s failures.

“Under the BJP’s rule, cow slaughter is happening with impunity, and cow meat is being sold openly. The BJP and its allies are complicit, with Bajrangis creating chaos on the streets to distract from the government’s failures,” Baij said, adding that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliated groups should demand accountability from the BJP government and the resignation of the Home Minister.

Double Standards on Cow Protection

Baij claimed that over 5,000 cows are smuggled every month, with more than 60,000 allegedly sent to slaughterhouses within a year. Vehicles carrying cow meat, bones, and hides have been intercepted across the state, he alleged, calling it evidence of the BJP government’s “anti-national” stance. He further accused the BJP of amending the Mandi Act to facilitate the transportation of cows to other states and foreign countries.

“Cows are not safe in BJP-ruled states. In Uttar Pradesh, over 50,000 cows are sent to slaughterhouses daily, while cow smuggling thrives in Madhya Pradesh,” Baij alleged. He also accused the BJP of receiving significant donations from beef exporters and claimed that India became the top beef exporter globally after the BJP came to power at the Centre.

Hypocrisy of Cow Politics

Baij criticized the BJP for using cow protection as an election issue, claiming the party forgets its promises after winning votes. He pointed out that during the Goa Assembly elections, the BJP included a pledge to increase beef supply in its manifesto. He also alleged that the closure of state-run Gauthans (cow shelters) was another step toward benefiting beef exporters.

“The BJP, RSS, and their allies shed crocodile tears over cow slaughter while failing to act. The reality is that cow slaughter and smuggling have escalated the most under BJP rule,” Baij said.

Using Children as Political Shields

In his remarks, Baij also criticized street protests by Bajrang Dal activists, accusing them of using children as shields to divert attention from the government’s inaction. He called the protests a farce and demanded accountability from the BJP leadership, particularly the Home Minister, for failing to address the issue of cow smuggling and slaughter in BJP-ruled states.

The BJP has not yet responded to Baij’s allegations.
