Health Secretary Reviews Nehru Medical College and Ambedkar Hospital, Orders Speedy Completion of Mortuary House

Comprehensive review meeting focuses on hospital infrastructure, future expansion, and patient care facilities

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 30, 2025: Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria conducted a review meeting at Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Smriti Medical College to assess ongoing developments at the institution and Ambedkar Hospital. During the session, he directed officials to expedite the completion of the newly constructed mortuary house and instructed the preparation of a master plan addressing hospital needs and future expansion projects.

Following the meeting, Shri Kataria inspected several key facilities, including the Radiodiagnosis Department, Kitchen, Cancer Department, the proposed integrated 700-bed hospital site, and the mortuary house. He was accompanied by Commissioner of Medical Education Mrs. Kiran Kaushal, Collector Dr. Gaurav Singh, CGMSC Director Padmini Bhoi, Medical College Dean Dr. Vivek Chaudhary, and Hospital Superintendent Dr. Santosh Sonkar.

Emphasis on Infrastructure and Patient Support Facilities
During the inspection, the Health Secretary and Commissioner of Medical Education emphasized the need for family accommodations within the hospital premises to support relatives of patients undergoing treatment. Additionally, the Collector was instructed to ensure the rapid construction of a dedicated shed within the hospital campus for charitable organizations distributing free food to patient attendants.

Shri Kataria also reviewed ongoing and proposed construction projects aimed at upgrading medical facilities. Dean Dr. Vivek Chaudhary provided an overview of the medical college, including financial reports, and detailed various development initiatives. These include:

  • Construction of residential quarters and hostels on newly allocated government land
  • Beautification of the 1,500-seater medical college auditorium
  • Expansion of the Cancer Hospital from a G+2 structure to G+7 under the hospital expansion plan

Furthermore, updates were provided on crucial maintenance projects such as AC servicing in the medical college, campus electrification, CCTV installation, and fire safety upgrades. The Health Secretary directed CGMSC officials to ensure the timely completion of the mortuary upgradation project and urged the Public Works Department and Trauma Construction Committee to expedite procedures for the long-awaited L-2 Trauma Care Center.

Advancing Digitalization and Modernization
Ambedkar Hospital Superintendent Dr. Santosh Sonkar presented a four-year action plan, outlining upcoming initiatives such as road construction near the Cardiology Department for improved waste management, a dedicated fire exit from SNCU and ICU, and the transition to e-filing for MRD records.

Dr. Omkar Khandwal briefed the Health Secretary on the hospital’s digital transformation through the implementation of Next Gen E-Hospital, which includes advancements in tele-radiology services.

The meeting saw participation from key department heads, including Dr. S. B. S. Netam (Radiodiagnosis), Dr. Ravikant Das (Orthopedics), Dr. Manjula Beck (Cancer), Dr. Sumit Tripathi (Physiology), Dr. Diwakar Dhurandhar, and Dr. Anand Jaiswal, alongside officials from the Public Works Department and hospital administration.

With a strong focus on infrastructure improvements, modernization, and patient welfare, the review meeting set the stage for significant advancements in healthcare services at Nehru Medical College and Ambedkar Hospital.
