Chhattisgarh Sets Record in Paddy Procurement with 149.25 Lakh Metric Tonnes

Over 25 lakh farmers benefit from state’s procurement initiative, with Mahasamund leading the way

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 3, 2025:  Chhattisgarh has achieved a record-breaking paddy procurement of 149.25 lakh metric tonnes during the Kharif season under the minimum support price (MSP) scheme, marking the highest procurement figure in the state’s history since its formation. The procurement included 81.98 lakh metric tonnes of coarse paddy, 10.75 lakh metric tonnes of thin paddy, and 56.52 lakh metric tonnes of Sarna paddy.

The procurement process, which began on 14 November 2024 and concluded on 31 January 2025, saw participation from over 25.49 lakh registered farmers. These farmers were paid a total of ₹31,089 crore via the bank-linking system for the paddy they sold.

Mahasamund district topped the state’s procurement list with a record 11.04 lakh metric tonnes of paddy purchased. Bemetara district followed closely, securing second place with 9.38 lakh metric tonnes, while Balodabazar-Bhatapara district ranked third with 8.56 lakh metric tonnes.

According to food department officials, the paddy procurement process is progressing smoothly, with paddy being rapidly transported for custom milling. As of now, over 123 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have been scheduled for lifting, with more than 103 lakh metric tonnes already moved by 4,102 registered rice millers. In comparison, last year, 144.92 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured.

  • Bijapur: 11.97 lakh quintals
  • Dantewada: 3.34 lakh quintals
  • Kanker: 53.14 lakh quintals
  • Kondagaon: 31.24 lakh quintals
  • Narayanpur: 3.80 lakh quintals
  • Sukma: 9.29 lakh quintals
  • Bilaspur: 69.19 lakh quintals
  • Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi: 14.05 lakh quintals
  • Janjgir-Champa: 63.27 lakh quintals
  • Korba: 29.15 lakh quintals
  • Mungeli: 55.60 lakh quintals
  • Raigarh: 50.87 lakh quintals
  • Sakti: 51.37 lakh quintals
  • Sarangarh-Bilaigarh: 46.56 lakh quintals

Other districts, including Balod, Durg, Kawardha, Rajnandgaon, and many more, also contributed significantly to the record procurement.
