TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 27, 2025: In a major move to prevent road blockages caused by private events, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain has issued firm directives to curb disruptions on public roads. The action comes in response to growing concerns over unauthorized gatherings such as birthday parties, community feasts, and pandals that block traffic. Shri Jain underscored that public roads are exclusively for transportation, and any occupation of these roads for private functions will result in severe legal consequences.
During a high-level meeting, the Chief Secretary instructed officials to enforce strict penalties, including fines and vehicle seizures, on those responsible for such disruptions. He emphasized that violators would face immediate legal action under the Anti-Encroachment Act, the Motor Vehicles Act, the Municipal Act, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.
In addition to stringent enforcement, Shri Jain highlighted the importance of public education on the issue. He directed the Public Relations Department to launch an extensive statewide multimedia awareness campaign through television, radio, newspapers, and social media. This campaign will inform citizens of the legal repercussions of obstructing roads and encourage responsible behavior to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Shri Jain also called on law enforcement to remain vigilant, with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set to ensure swift intervention and continuous monitoring. The Chief Secretary warned that if such incidents continue, responsible administrative and police officials would be held accountable for any lapses.
With these decisive measures, the Chhattisgarh government aims to eliminate unauthorized road encroachments, ensuring free-flowing traffic and public mobility across the state. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri Manoj Pingua, Director General of Police Shri Arun Dev Gautam, and top representatives from various departments.
