
TFP Bureau, Korba, March 11, 2025: Bharat Aluminum Company Limited (BALCO), part of the Vedanta Group, hosted a vibrant celebration for World Women’s Day, honoring the achievements and contributions of women within the company. The event, held at the town hall, was graced by Padmashree Smt. Shamshad Begum as the chief guest, who was welcomed with a bouquet.
During the event, 83 women employees were recognized for their exceptional work in the company. The ceremony was attended by BALCO Chief Executive Officer and Director, Rajesh Kumar, who praised the efforts of women in shaping the company’s progress.
The event featured over 400 women employees who gathered to celebrate empowerment, self-reliance, and their contributions to BALCO. One of the highlights was the launch of the magazine *Unstoppable*, which showcased the inspiring journeys of 12 successful women from the BALCO family. Additionally, the company unveiled a new line of custom-fitted attire for women employees.
In an effort to promote leadership, BALCO selected 23 women leaders to take on assistant roles for top management positions for the day. These women had the unique opportunity to work alongside senior executives, gaining valuable insights and experience.
BALCO also organized a special evening cultural program, where women employees participated in performances such as dance, songs, and a ramp walk.
CEO Rajesh Kumar expressed his pride in the event, noting, “We are honored to have Padmashree Shamshad Begum with us. As a social worker, her work in Chhattisgarh has been a beacon of inspiration for both women and youth. BALCO stands as an example of creating equal opportunities, and today, we celebrate the women driving our success.”
Padmashree Smt. Shamshad Begum, a renowned social worker in Chhattisgarh, spoke about the importance of women’s empowerment. She highlighted the critical role of women employees at BALCO, stressing that women’s development is vital for accelerating the nation’s progress. Begum also shared a folk song that resonated with the audience, symbolizing the breaking of societal shackles for women.
BALCO has long supported women’s well-being with initiatives such as on-site childcare facilities, paid maternity leave, nursing breaks, and a ‘One Day Work from Home Policy’ for menstruating employees. The company is committed to increasing the number of female employees to 30% by 2030. Regular health screening programs, including breast cancer awareness initiatives, further demonstrate BALCO’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for women.
