NCC Cadets Promote Clean Water in Puneet Sagar Campaign
TFP Bureau Raipur, Sep 09, 2023: In a concerted effort to spread awareness about preserving the cleanliness of ponds, rivers, and reservoirs, NCC cadets have taken up the mantle of the Puneet Sagar campaign. This morning, a program under this initiative unfolded at the serene Telibandha pond in the capital city of Raipur. NCC cadets were lauded for their tireless efforts in motivating people to maintain the cleanliness of these water bodies. The event resounded with water conservation slogans and emphasized the importance of responsible water usage.
Over 2000 cadets hailing from various NCC institutions within the Raipur Group participated in the program, organized by NCC Caddis, marking the one-year anniversary of the Puneet Sagar Campaign. The campaign’s mission is to inspire local communities and future generations to keep ponds, rivers, and reservoirs pristine while highlighting their significance.
As part of the nationwide Puneet Sagar campaign, NCC aims to rid coastal areas, beaches, lakes, rivers, and ponds of plastic and other pollutants. This endeavor seeks to educate the public about the environmental hazards of plastic waste and promote responsible disposal practices. Chhattisgarh, a state where NCC Group Raipur and its 16 units have been actively engaged in the Puneet Sagar campaign for the past year, boasts around 18,000 cadets spread across 253 schools and 100 colleges. So far, these cadets have successfully detoxified 75 water bodies in the state, collecting a total of 2400 kg of plastic waste, which was subsequently sent for recycling.
In tandem with local populations, Gram Panchayats, Municipal Corporations, and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), NCC cadets in Chhattisgarh have initiated extensive awareness campaigns. These include awareness rallies, street plays, painting competitions, and signature drives to emphasize the importance of water body cleanliness and conservation.
The felicitation program witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, including MLAs Mr. Kuldeep Juneja, Vikas Upadhyay, and Mr. Brijmohan Agarwal, Labor Department Chairman Mr. Sushil Sunny Agarwal, and Major General Sanjay Sharma as the chief guest. Brigadier Vivek Sharma, VSM (Retired), Colonel Vishnu Shikarwar, Colonel Santosh Rawat, and Colonel Rakesh Budhani, along with numerous civilians, graced the occasion.
The mega event saw NCC cadets from various schools and colleges, including 8 CG Girls Bata, 27 CG Bata, 5 CG CGI, 1 CG Naval Unit, and 3 CG Air Squadron, as well as Raipur city residents, volunteers, and NGOs actively participating. The program featured street plays, Puneet Sagar-themed songs, dances, and speeches by the NCC cadets. Additionally, local Chhattisgarhi artist Mr. Sunil Tiwari delivered a captivating performance.
