Chhattisgarh Witnesses 38% Surge in Motor Vehicle Registrations
TFP Bureau, Raipur; Oct 01, 2023: The Transport Department in the state of Chhattisgarh has been actively implementing innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing public convenience and ensuring smooth traffic management, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and the guidance of Transport Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar. This commitment to better governance is exemplified by the successful execution of several NYAY schemes, which have had a profound impact on uplifting the underprivileged sections of society. Over the span of five years, these schemes have directly transferred more than Rs. 2 lakh crore into the bank accounts of the state’s residents, making a significant contribution to social welfare and poverty alleviation.
The palpable effects of these government endeavors have reverberated across villages, cities, and markets in Chhattisgarh, where economic activity has surged. This surge extended to the automobile industry, with a notable increase in vehicle purchases leading up to the Navratri and Dussehra-Diwali festivals.
A noteworthy trend is the continuous rise in the number of registered motor vehicles in the state, driven by the convenience of vehicle acquisition and sale. In September 2022, a total of 30,597 motor vehicles were registered. In contrast, September 2023 witnessed a substantial spike, with 42,186 motor vehicles being registered, reflecting a remarkable 37.88% increase in registrations compared to the same period in the previous year.
According to information provided by Commissioner of Transport Shri Dipanshu Kabra, the Raipur Regional Transport Office recorded the highest number of registrations, with 8,645 motor vehicles registered between September 2022 and September 2023. The Surguja Regional Transport Office registered 2,128 vehicles, Bilaspur Regional Transport Office registered 3,187, Durg Regional Transport Office recorded 3,589 registrations, and the Jagdalpur Regional Transport Office contributed 1,215 registrations.
Moreover, District Transport Offices in various districts also contributed significantly to the surge in registrations. Notable figures include 1,049 registrations in Baikunthpur, 688 in Balod, 1,391 in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, 655 in Balrampur, 574 in Bemetara, 337 in Bijapur, 424 in Dantewada, 1,035 in Dhamtari, 581 in Gariaband, 366 in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 2,009 in Janjgir-Champa, 1,017 in Jashpur, 1,029 in Kanker, 913 in Kawardha, 792 in Kondagaon, 2,469 in Korba, 1,385 in Mahasamund, 685 in Mungeli, 250 in Narayanpur, 1,912 in Rajnandgaon, 267 in Sukma, and 829 in Surajpur. These registrations encompass a wide range of vehicles, including tractors, ambulances, buses, e-rickshaws, goods carriers, harvesters, taxis (cabs), motorcycles, and heavy vehicles, reflecting the broad spectrum of economic activity in the state.
The surge in motor vehicle registrations is indicative of Chhattisgarh’s thriving economy, driven by innovative governance and a commitment to improving the lives of its residents. The state continues to set an example in social welfare and economic growth, reaffirming its status as a promising hub for businesses and individuals alike.
