BALCO Firefighters Recognized for their Life-Saving Role Beyond Fire Safety on World Stroke Day
TFP Bureau, Raipur, Oct 29, 2023 – With World Stroke Day around the corner, a day dedicated to advocating stroke prevention and treatment, the spotlight shifts to the exceptional firefighters at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO). This unexpected link between firefighting and stroke response underscores BALCO’s enduring commitment to the community it serves.
While firefighters are commonly associated with dousing fires and rescuing individuals from burning structures, their duties extend far beyond. Equipped with comprehensive medical emergency skills, these first responders, including BALCO’s dedicated team, possess the expertise crucial in handling various crises, including strokes. Their swift and decisive actions during emergencies are crucial, saving precious moments in dire situations.
Manoj Yadav, Senior Shift in-Charge at BALCO, recounts a significant incident where his firefighting skills came into play during a health emergency. “At the Uslapur Railway Station, I encountered a critical situation where an elderly man suffered a sudden loss of consciousness. Despite not being on duty, my training as a firefighter urged me to act. Leveraging my CPR skills, I intervened, emphasizing the multifaceted role of a firefighter. It’s about more than battling flames; it’s about being a beacon of hope in times of crisis.”
The BALCO Fire Department prioritizes ongoing training, covering diverse skills ranging from advanced fire suppression methods to modern medical response techniques. This knowledge isn’t confined to their team; they actively share it with the community through outreach programs. These initiatives aim to empower residents, fostering a culture of preparedness and safety among all.
Emphasizing the significance of prevention, Mr. Pitambar Majhi from BALCO’s Fire Department stressed the importance of educating the community to reduce risks. “Prevention is paramount. By educating schools and communities and routinely checking fire equipment, we aim to mitigate fire hazards and create a safer environment.”
Beyond firefighting, BALCO extends its commitment to community well-being through diverse initiatives encompassing health, education, and social empowerment. Engaging with over 1.5 lakh people in their operational vicinity, the company’s efforts reflect a holistic approach to societal improvement.
On World Stroke Day, the recognition of BALCO’s firefighters goes beyond fire safety, spotlighting their unwavering dedication and profound impact, demonstrating that heroes don’t only combat fires but embody compassion and commitment to the community’s well-being.
