TFP Bureau, New Delhi; Nov 26, 2023: The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with the Indian Law Institute, marked Constitution Day today with a splendid celebration at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The event, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution on this day in 1949, brought together distinguished guests, legal luminaries, and dignitaries to reflect on India’s constitutional journey.
The Chief Guest, Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing that India’s remarkable growth in the fields of economy, science, and technology, coupled with its standing in the global community, mirrors the strength of its Constitution. He commended recent judicial reforms and modernization, making the judiciary more accessible, and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among the Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary for the nation’s growth.
A noteworthy part of the celebration was the release of two significant books, ‘A Guide to Alternative Dispute Resolution’ and ‘Perspectives on Constitution and Development,’ by the Ministry of Law and Justice and Indian Law Institute, respectively.The former aims to demystify the framework of arbitration and mediation in India, providing a valuable resource for citizens. The latter, a compilation of articles and lectures, offers insights into India’s constitutional democracy, its evolution, challenges, and possibilities for reform.
The event featured a transformative Colloquium with five technical sessions exploring the vital link between constitutional values, global aspirations, and the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. The sessions covered topics ranging from accelerating progress through a constitutional roadmap for justice and development to discussions on climate change, technological transformation, gender empowerment, and the role of law and justice in a globalized world.
The ceremony also witnessed the distribution of awards to the winners of a debate on ‘Limits to Liberty – Fundamental Rights vs Fundamental Duties,’ organized by the Ministry in collaboration with the Indian Law Institute. The first prize went to Maanasi Pilla & Nandini Kaushik from Bennett University, followed by Tejaswini Satheesh & Pratham Pedaparthi from India IIULER, Goa, and Prerna Cheema & Divyanshu Goel from Punjab University.
As the Constitution enters its 75th year, the event served as a platform to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and the foresight of the Constitution makers. The celebrations highlighted the enduring strength of the Indian Constitution and its role in shaping the nation’s destiny.
