Chief Minister Sai Launches Rest House Initiative for Families of Hospital Patients

TFP Burea, Raipur, January 1, 2026: In a major humanitarian initiative aimed at easing the hardships faced by families of patients, the Chhattisgarh government has announced the construction of dedicated rest houses for attendants at state-run medical college hospitals. The initiative seeks to ensure that families accompanying patients for treatment are no longer forced to spend nights in hospital corridors, staircases or open spaces due to lack of accommodation.

To operationalise the programme, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Medical Education Department and Sevadhan Arogya Foundation at the Mantralaya in Nava Raipur, in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The agreement marks an important step towards integrating compassion and dignity into the state’s healthcare ecosystem.

The rest houses will be developed, furnished and operated entirely by Sevadhan Arogya Foundation, relieving families of the burden of arranging shelter during prolonged medical treatment. The facilities will offer clean, secure and affordable accommodation, along with basic amenities essential for attendants who often remain with patients for days or weeks.

According to officials, the rest houses will be equipped with round-the-clock security, CCTV surveillance, hygienic food facilities and a dignified living environment. The objective is to create a home-like atmosphere close to hospitals, ensuring that patient attendants can rest safely while continuing to support their loved ones undergoing treatment.

In the first phase, the initiative will be implemented at government medical colleges in Raipur, Ambikapur, Raigarh and Jagdalpur—cities that receive a large inflow of patients from remote and rural areas. These centres often witness families travelling long distances with limited financial resources, making accommodation one of their biggest challenges.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said the government’s responsibility does not end with providing medical treatment alone. He emphasised that safeguarding the dignity, comfort and well-being of patients’ families is equally important. People coming from far-flung villages, he said, are often compelled to live in extremely difficult conditions around hospitals, and the rest house initiative will offer them much-needed relief and security.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal described the project as a meaningful expansion of healthcare services, stating that treatment is not limited to medicines and doctors but also includes emotional and logistical support for families. He noted that the rest houses will operate on a no-profit, no-loss basis, ensuring affordability without compromising quality.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Technical Education Minister Shri Khushwant Saheb, Health Secretary Shri Amit Kataria, Commissioner of Medical Education Shri Ritesh Agarwal, and representatives of Sevadhan Arogya Foundation.

Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit thousands of families every year, significantly reducing mental stress and financial strain during medical emergencies. By addressing a long-neglected aspect of healthcare infrastructure, the Chhattisgarh government aims to set a benchmark for patient-centric and compassionate governance in the health sector.
