TFP Bureau, New Delhi; Dec 28, 2023: According to the Ministry of Coal’s latest statistics, the cumulative coal production achievement for the fiscal year 2023-24, spanning from April 2023 to December 25, 2023, has reached an impressive 664.37 million tonnes (MT). This marks a substantial growth of 12.29% compared to the same period last year, where production stood at 591.64 MT.
In terms of coal dispatch, the cumulative achievement for the same period in FY 2023-24 is 692.84 MT, representing a noteworthy growth of 11.32% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, which recorded 622.40 MT. This surge ensures a consistent and robust coal supply to meet the energy demands of the power sector.
Furthermore, the coal dispatch to the power sector during the same period in FY 2023-24 experienced an impressive 8.39% increase, reaching 577.11 MT compared to 532.43 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.
As of December 25, 2023, the overall coal stock position, including mines, thermal power plants (DCB), transit, etc., reached 91.05 MT, showcasing a commendable 21.57% growth from 74.90 MT on December 25, 2022. Additionally, Pithead Coal Stock at Coal India Limited (CIL) on December 25, 2023, stands at 47.29 MT, indicating a notable growth of 53.02% compared to the coal stock of 30.88 MT on December 25, 2022.
This higher coal stock position highlights the Ministry of Coal’s commitment to maintaining a sufficient coal supply, demonstrating effective stock management strategies, operational efficiency, and consistent coal supply to meet the energy needs of the power sector.
Moreover, the uninterrupted availability of Coal Rakes, crucial for coal transportation, ensures a smooth evacuation process, effectively addressing transportation bottlenecks and guaranteeing a seamless coal supply.
