State Releases ₹3,000 Crore Advance Share for Jal Jeevan Mission

Centre reimburses ₹536.53 crore; rural households to benefit from expanded tap water coverage

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 5, 2026: The Chhattisgarh government had released its entire state share of ₹3,000 crore in advance during the financial year 2024–25 for the implementation of works under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The funds were utilised throughout the year to accelerate the execution of drinking water supply projects across rural areas of the state.

Officials said that following the utilisation of the advance funds, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, through its Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has now released ₹536.53 crore to the state government as reimbursement.

The move reflects the state government’s proactive approach in ensuring that implementation of drinking water projects does not slow down due to funding delays. By releasing the state share in advance, the government ensured that construction and installation works under the mission continued without interruption.

Officials noted that the funds were used for various activities under the mission, including the construction of water supply infrastructure, laying of pipelines, development of water sources, installation of overhead tanks, and the expansion of household tap connections in rural regions.

Mission extended until 2028

The Government of India has extended the duration of the Jal Jeevan Mission until December 2028, under which the programme is currently being implemented as part of Mission 2.0. The extension aims to ensure the sustainability of rural drinking water systems and strengthen long-term water supply infrastructure across states.

Under this phase, special emphasis is being placed on maintaining existing infrastructure, improving service delivery, and ensuring regular water supply to rural households.

Tap water for every rural household

The core objective of the mission is to provide safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household through functional tap connections under the “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” initiative.

State authorities said extensive work is underway across villages in Chhattisgarh to expand the piped water supply network. The projects aim to ensure that rural families receive clean and reliable drinking water directly in their homes, thereby reducing dependence on traditional water sources such as hand pumps, wells, and ponds.

In addition to improving access to drinking water, the initiative is expected to contribute to better public health, reduce the burden on women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water, and strengthen sanitation and hygiene practices in rural communities.

Officials added that the mission is being implemented through coordinated efforts between the central and state governments, with regular monitoring to ensure timely completion of projects and effective utilisation of funds.

With continued financial support and administrative focus, the state government aims to expand piped drinking water coverage across rural Chhattisgarh and ensure sustainable access to safe water for every household.
