Prime Minister Modi to Inaugurate ₹ 1756 Crore Barsingsar Solar Power Plant

300 MW Solar Project to Propel Renewable Energy Agenda

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, February 15, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the 300 MW Barsingsar Solar Power Plant tomorrow, marking a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy journey. The virtual ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to promoting clean energy and advancing towards a net-zero future.

NLC India Limited, a leading Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, is spearheading the establishment of the ₹ 1756 Crore Solar Power Project in Barsingsar, Bikaner District, Rajasthan, as part of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s CPSE Scheme. The project aims to provide affordable power supply to government entities, aligning with the nation’s renewable energy goals.

NLCIL’s achievement of reaching a 1 GW Solar capacity milestone sets the stage for the Barsingsar project, secured through competitive bidding under the CPSE Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III facilitated by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules manufactured in India, the project mirrors the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative championed by Prime Minister Modi. The solar plant’s output is expected to generate around 750 million units of green power annually, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 18,000 Million Metric tons over its lifetime.

A Power Usage Agreement has been finalized with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited at a competitive tariff of Rs. 2.52/unit for the next 25 years, ensuring sustainable power distribution. The project, slated for commissioning by September 2024, is poised to create employment opportunities for approximately 600 individuals indirectly during the project phase and 100 personnel during the Operations & Maintenance phase.

The Barsingsar Solar Power Plant not only supports Rajasthan’s Renewable Purchase Obligation but also contributes to India’s broader vision of achieving a Net Zero future.

NLCIL’s existing 250 MW Barsingsar Thermal Power Station (BTPS), renowned for its cost-effective electricity provision in Rajasthan, exemplifies the company’s commitment to sustainable energy. Utilizing environmentally friendly Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion technology and fueled by pithead 2.1 MTPA Barsingsar Mine, BTPS has earned a prestigious Five Star Rating from the Ministry of Coal for its exceptional performance.

The inauguration of the Barsingsar Solar Power Plant signifies a pivotal step towards a greener, more resilient future for India, in alignment with national development objectives.
