PM Modi Unveils Ambitious Solar Energy Projects in Chhattisgarh

Initiatives Aimed at Empowering Every Home and Farmer under ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Chhattisgarh’ Program

TFP Bureau, Raipur, February 25, 2024: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Chhattisgarh’ program via video conferencing, highlighted the government’s vision of making Chhattisgarh a solar energy hub. He dedicated a significant solar energy project and inaugurated a railway solar power plant, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy development.

The Prime Minister unveiled the 100-megawatt AC/155-megawatt DC solar power project, constructed at a cost of Rs. 907 crore, situated across 451 acres of barren land in Rajnandgaon district. This project, designed to operate even during the night, is poised to supply electricity to the surrounding areas, underscoring its potential to bolster energy sustainability in the region.

Additionally, Shri Modi inaugurated a 50-megawatt railway solar power plant in Charoda-Bhilai, constructed at a cost of Rs. 280 crore. This initiative is set to contribute significantly to the region’s renewable energy capacity and reduce carbon emissions.

The Chief Minister, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Culture Minister Shri Brijmohan Agrawal presided over the proceedings.

In his address,

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi elaborated on the ‘PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana,’ emphasizing the government’s commitment to transforming every household into a solar-powered home. He reiterated the goal of reducing electricity bills to zero for consumers, with plans to include one crore households nationwide in this initiative.

Shri Modi outlined the assistance provided for installing rooftop solar panels, with funds being directly transferred to bank accounts. This initiative, offering free electricity up to 300 units and enabling families to sell surplus energy back to the government, is poised to generate substantial savings for households while creating employment opportunities, particularly for youth.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister underscored the government’s support for farmers by facilitating the establishment of small-scale solar plants on barren land, aiming to transition them from food providers to energy suppliers.

Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, along with senior officials and a large gathering of people, attended the program, highlighting the collective commitment towards sustainable energy development and economic empowerment in Chhattisgarh.
