TFP Bureau,Raipur; March 05, 2024: Emphasizing the urgency of environmental protection amid escalating climate change challenges, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai inaugurated the two-day “Chhattisgarh Climate Change Conclave 2024” at a private hotel in Raipur today.
Addressing attendees, including Forest and Climate Change Minister Mr. Kedar Kashyap and distinguished guests, the Chief Minister underscored the global ramifications of climate change, manifesting in irregular rainfall patterns, prolonged droughts, and cyclonic disturbances. He stressed the imperative for devising a comprehensive strategy to preserve nature and mitigate environmental degradation.
The conclave, attended by representatives from 15 states and numerous national institutions, serves as a platform for sharing insights and formulating future action plans to combat climate change. Notable figures present included MLA and Padmashree awardee Mr. Anuj Sharma, Padmashree recipients Mrs. Phoolbasan Yadav, Mr. Hemchand Manjhi, and Mr. Jageshwar Yadav, along with senior officials from the Forest Department.
Inaugurating the event, the Chief Minister commended the efforts of the state forest department and the Chhattisgarh State Center for Climate Change in organizing the conclave, heralding it as a pivotal moment in the state’s climate resilience efforts. He expressed confidence that insights gleaned from discussions among experts and environmentalists would inform future policy decisions, benefitting both Chhattisgarh and the nation.
As part of the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister unveiled the “Chhattisgarh State Action Plan on Climate Change” and launched a dashboard for monitoring its implementation. Additionally, he released the book “Ancient Wisdom,” focusing on traditional health practices in Bastar, and highlighted biodiversity in Kanger Valley.
Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard nature, urging concerted efforts from all stakeholders, including tribal communities renowned for their intimate understanding of the natural world.
The workshop, organized with technical support from the Foundation for Ecological Security, facilitated dialogue among experts, environmentalists, tribal representatives, and traditional healers (Vaidyarajas), fostering collaborative strategies to address the challenges of climate change.
With the participation of delegates from across the nation, the conclave symbolizes a unified commitment to combatting climate change and forging sustainable pathways for future generations.
