TFP Bureau, Raipur; March 05, 2024: Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya witnessed a momentous occasion as it hosted its fourth convocation ceremony at the university campus in Jagdalpur, Bastar. Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan graced the event as the Chief Guest, highlighting the pivotal role of higher education in youth development, alongside Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
The convocation celebrated the achievements of 93 students who were awarded gold medals, 43 students who attained PhDs, and one student who received an honorary degree, underscoring the academic excellence fostered at the university.
Governor Shri Harichandan emphasized the transformative impact of higher education, equipping youth with critical thinking skills and moral values essential for navigating contemporary challenges. He applauded the Chhattisgarh Government’s commitment to Bastar’s holistic development, prioritizing youth engagement and regional prosperity.
Acknowledging Bastar’s rich cultural heritage and natural abundance, Governor Shri Harichandan urged youth to actively participate in community development initiatives, leveraging modern tools and innovation to address societal challenges.
Expressing satisfaction at the university’s receipt of a Rs. 100 crore grant under the “MERU” project, Governor Shri Harichandan affirmed the investment’s potential to bolster educational infrastructure and departmental operations, heralding a new era of academic excellence in Bastar.
Professor Shri Manoj Kumar Shrivastav, the Vice-Chancellor, presented the university’s progress report, while Professor Shri Ram Kumar Kakani, Director of the Indian Institute of Management Raipur, delivered the convocation address, inspiring graduates to embrace their role as agents of change.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai underscored Bastar’s pivotal role in promoting higher education and its significance in driving regional development. Distributing gold medals to outstanding students, he reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing Bastar’s progress, particularly through initiatives aimed at empowering women and advancing educational infrastructure.
Highlighting the approval of 33 new courses in 20 departments, Shri Sai emphasized their relevance to aspiring entrepreneurs, signaling a transformative shift in the region’s educational landscape.
Padma Shri awardee Shri Dharampal Saini, Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, and other dignitaries graced the occasion, reaffirming their collective resolve to propel Bastar towards a prosperous and inclusive future.
