TFP Bureau, New Delhi; April 30, 2024: NHPC Limited, India’s foremost organization in hydropower development, has entered into a significant partnership with M/s Ocean Sun, a leading Norwegian technology provider in the floating solar industry. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NHPC and Ocean Sun paves the way for exploring and implementing Ocean Sun’s innovative floating solar energy technology utilizing photovoltaic panels on hydro-elastic membranes at selected sites identified by NHPC.
The collaboration underscores NHPC’s commitment to sustainable development and augmenting renewable energy capacity. NHPC, known for its leadership in hydroelectric projects, has diversified its portfolio to include various renewable energy initiatives such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects.
The MoU, signed on April 29, 2024, in a hybrid mode, saw the participation of key officials including Shri V.R. Shrivastava, Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) from NHPC, and Mr. Kristian Tørvold, CEO of Ocean Sun. The ceremony was graced by H.E. Ms. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India, and Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Director (Technical) from NHPC, among others, connecting from the Embassy of Norway in New Delhi and Oslo, with H.E. Dr. Acquino Vimal, Ambassador of India to Norway, also participating remotely.
This strategic collaboration between NHPC and Ocean Sun represents a significant step towards advancing renewable energy solutions in India, leveraging cutting-edge technology to harness solar power efficiently.
