TFP Bureau, New Delhi, May 3, 2024: India’s coal production for April 2024 surged to 78.69 million metric tonnes (MT) on a provisional basis, marking a substantial growth rate of 7.41% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, which stood at 73.26 MT. According to data released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Delhi, Coal India Limited (CIL) played a pivotal role in driving this increase, achieving a production of 61.78 MT (Provisional), representing a growth of 7.31% from the previous year’s figure of 57.57 MT. Additionally, coal production by Captive and other entities totaled 11.43 MT (Provisional), reflecting a robust growth rate of 12.99% from the previous year’s 10.12 MT.
The surge in coal production was complemented by a corresponding increase in dispatches, with India’s coal dispatches for April 2024 reaching 85.10 MT (Provisional), up by 6.07% compared to the same period last year when it was recorded at 80.23 MT. Notably, CIL dispatched 64.26 MT (Provisional) of coal during April 2024, marking a growth of 3.18% from the corresponding period of the previous year when it was 62.28 MT. Furthermore, coal dispatch by Captive and other entities in April reached 15.16 MT (Provisional), indicating a remarkable growth rate of 26.90% from the previous year’s 11.95 MT.
The robust growth in coal production and dispatches underscores India’s efforts to meet its energy requirements and drive economic growth through increased domestic coal utilization.
